What kind of volunteers does The Coalition for Compassion and Action need?
Where to begin? When taking on institutional biases, systemic barriers, societal apathy, prejudice we need:
- Lawyers. Especially civil rights attorneys and constitutional law attorneys. Our friends who are living on the streets face a shocking number of violations of their rights as citizens, discrimination, and abuse. We are always seeking bold, passionate attorneys who believe in the dignity of even the least among us.
- Experienced former state and city officials who are intimately familiar with the legislative process and lobbying. If you’ve passed legislation, we want your help to repeal some, too. Let’s write some new legislation while we’re at it, shall we? Something that protects the poorest citizens of our city, perhaps?
- Committed community organizers and activists. The plight of the impoverished all around us is being swept underneath the facade of plenty and progress through laws that target people for being poor. The time has come for us to shine as bright a light on the suffering, addiction, trauma and injustice that is destroying people’s lives every day.
- City Council buffs. We need a CCA presence at every City Council meeting. Just a small contingent to let the city know we are watching. Everything.
Thank you for taking the time from your busy life to volunteer. You will change someone’s life forever.
